美国国务卿卢比欧周日（6月22日）呼吁中国出面阻止伊朗关闭荷姆兹海峡（Strait of Hormuz）。　卢比欧在接受Fox News访问时表示：「我呼吁在北京的中国政府就此事与伊朗通话，因为中国的石油严重依赖荷姆兹海峡」。

卢比奥称，伊朗封锁该海峡将是“经济自杀”，因为伊朗伊斯兰共和国的石油也要通过这条水道。伊朗是欧佩克第三大产油国，日产量为330万桶。据美国能源信息署的数据，伊朗每天至少出口 160 万桶石油，其中近80%销往中国。
