卢比奥称，伊朗封锁该海峡将是“经济自杀”，因为伊朗伊斯兰共和国的石油也要通过这条水道。伊朗是欧佩克第三大产油国，日产量为330万桶。据美国能源信息署的数据，伊朗每天至少出口 160 万桶石油，其中近80%销往中国。
